PORT ANGELES — “There was nothing I could do. It happened so fast.”
Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Pastor Charles Mays said Tuesday that he is coping with the fact that he accidentally struck and killed a Port Angeles pedestrian with his car Monday night.
“I feel terrible for her family,” Mays said. “I can’t imagine what her family is going through.”
Mays and his wife, Sandy, were returning from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport late Monday when their car struck and killed Infita Noda, 23, on U.S. Highway 101 between Buchanan Drive and Deer Park Road.
“The officers told me that that there was nothing I could have done,” Mays said. “Even though I know that intellectually, emotionally I am devastated.”
Mays, 61, has been the pastor of Holy Trinity for 13 years.
Neither Mays nor his wife were seriously injured.
