PORT ANGELES — A ribbon cutting Thursday officially opened Peninsula College’s new student union building after four years of planning.
Construction of the Pirate Union Building was overseen by four Associated Student Council presidents. All four were present at Thursday’s ceremony.
“All of the individual voices came together,” 1998-99 President Genevieve Keegan said.
“That led to a truly unique building which enables students to come together.”
Walking into the new building was “like a birthday surprise,” 1997-98 student President Glenn Gilliam said to the crowd.
Peninsula College President Tom Keegan said the building is “centered on student life.”
“Groups of students over the years had the foresight to look ahead,” he said. “We’re very lucky to have had a group of students do that.”
