PORT ANGELES — Police who were chasing a man wanted on a warrant made an arrest — but of another man wanted on a separate warrant.
The foot chase began at about 3 p.m., when Port Angeles officers spotted a man they recognized as wanted for a failure to appear for a driving while intoxicated hearing.
Spotted near Lincoln
The officers spotted him near Lincoln Street. The man started running from the officers when he realized they were going to arrest him, said Port Angeles Police Detective Robert Ensor.
The man briefly disappeared, and when officers looked for him on First Street, they thought they saw him.
“For whatever reason, we ran into the second guy — a man who fit the description of the first man,” Ensor said.
“When we approached him, he started running on foot, too.”
Similar descriptions
“We ended up catching him near the [Department of Social and Health Services building, 201 W. First St.], which is only about a block away from where we first saw him.”
Only it wasn’t the original man, Ensor said. However, that man had a similar $500 failure-to-appear warrant out for his arrest.
He was booked at the Clallam County jail at about 3:30 p.m.
The other man has not yet been caught, Ensor said. He is wanted on a minor warrant and isn’t believed to be dangerous.
Neither man was identified.
