PORT ANGELES — Police Chief Tom Riepe wants to expand downtown parking enforcement during the peak summer tourist season.
Riepe said Tuesday he will present his idea to City Manager Michael Quinn in two weeks when the manager returns from a brief medical leave.
He previously presented the idea to the Port Angeles Downtown Association.
“I think it could be a win-win situation,” Riepe said Tuesday. “The benefits will outweigh the minimal costs.”
Parking enforcement officer Sandra Stafford works 17 hours per week at an annual salary of $16,314, the police chief said.
Under Riepe’s proposal, Stafford would work 40 hours per week from the week before Memorial Day through the end of September at an estimated additional cost of $6,100.
