PORT ANGELES — Police have identified Christopher William Dwyer as the man whose body was found floating Wednesday in the waters of East Boat Haven off Marine Drive.
Port Angeles Police Sgt. Kevin Miller said Thursday that Dwyer was identified by his father.
Authorities know Dwyer was a 39-year-old transient from Tacoma who went by the alias of Jacob Green.
They don’t know much else, Miller said.
“I have no idea why he had an alias,” he added.
Miller also did not know where Dwyer was staying, if anywhere, in Port Angeles.
“We don’t have anyone that knows him, anything like that,” Miller said.
The cause of Dwyer’s death, and the details of his life before he ended up in the 43-degree water of Port Angeles Harbor a few blocks west of downtown, remains a mystery, Miller said.
An autopsy on Dwyer was conducted Thursday.
Tissue samples likely will be sent to the State Crime Lab for review. Results won’t be available for several days, Miller said.
“We do not know anything until we get that pathology report back,” he said.
Dwyer’s body did not have signs of trauma or show any indication that, for example, he hit his head on a rock before going into the water.
“We have nothing that we have seen that leads us to any of that,” Miller said.
Miller said a person at the Boat Haven reported seeing Dwyer’s fully clothed body floating near a dock at the Boat Haven about 9 a.m. Wednesday.
Dwyer was not carrying a wallet, Miller said.
