PORT ANGELES — Police have started a neighborhood search in west Port Angeles for a Level III sex offender who escaped from community custody this week.
Vasis Anthony Turner, who also uses the surname Clevenger, has been convicted of multiple felonies and is considered a high risk to commit more sexual acts with minors, authorities say.
“He has been very active in seeking contact with local minors,” Community Corrections Officer Lourene O’Brien said Thursday.
Turner, 20, was last seen Wednesday afternoon at an apartment complex on C Street near the intersection of 17th Street, O’Brien said.
Officers went door to door Thursday distributing wanted posters at the complex where Turner has family and friends, O’Brien said.
“We’ve spoken with people who know him, people who know of him,” she said. “We’re doing everything we can to find him before he gets too far away.”
Turner is described as a white male, 6 feet tall, 225 pounds, with blue eyes and brown hair.
He is classified as the highest-level sex offender.
People with information on Turner’s whereabouts are asked to call 9-1-1.
Those with questions and concerns can call the Office of Correctional Operations in Port Angeles at 360-457-2587.
