PORT ANGELES — The co-owner of Wight Corp. says he was surprised by the closure of PRIME — Pacific Rim Industrial & Marine Engineering — which has resulted in his company’s abrupt return to the marine repair industry.
“We were caught off guard,” corporation president Steve Wight said.
Wight, 49, of Bellingham co-owns Wight Corp. with Don Swan of Bellingham. Swan serves as vice president and chief financial officer.
Wight previously sold its topside ship repair business in Port Angeles and its machine and fabrication shop in Bellingham to PRIME 3½ years ago.
On Thursday, Wight officials resumed control of the operations.
The change in business operations comes less than a week after PRIME closed its doors because of financial problems.
“It’s going to take a week to gear ourselves up,” Wight said in an interview Friday.
