PORT ANGELES — Plans for an Ediz Hook marina that would house yachts up to 120 feet long are awaiting a federal agency’s decision whether to designate the proposed site as trust land for the Lower Elwha Klallam tribe.
“If we are able to get tribal trust status, then the developer will move ahead — that’s all that is holding it up,” Tribal Chairman Dennis R. “Sully” Sullivan said in an interview with Peninsula Daily News.
The proposed marina would be located on a 1,600-foot strip along the south side of Ediz Hook Road, just west of the Puget Sound Pilots station near the entrance to the Coast Guard base.
The site does not have any usable structures now.
The project would include 54 to 57 boathouses to accommodate yachts between 80 feet and 120 feet and worth between $5 million and $15 million.
The marina’s estimated price tag is $7 million. It would be financed by private backers working with the Lower Elwha tribe.
