PORT ANGELES — Two puppies that were reportedly dropped off in after-hours cages at the Clallam County Humane Society on Saturday have disappeared, piquing concern from the shelter and a police chief.
Lower Elwha Tribal Police Chief Mike Lasnier said an officer in his department impounded a 4-month-old puppy for safekeeping at the shelter until its owner could claim it, but suspects the dog was either stolen or released.
Also missing is a 6-month-old puppy that was left at the shelter by someone else the same day.
Humane Society Manager Vickie Wilson said the drop boxes were unlocked and empty when staff returned to the shelter Sunday, and no note was left to indicate the younger puppy had ever been there.
