Port Angeles, Quillayute School Board election results

PORT ANGELES — Preliminary election results for two school board races in Port Angeles and Forks show incumbents garnering the largest share of votes.

In the Port Angeles School Board race, President Nancy McLaughlin received 2,220 votes, or 51.3 percent, of the 4,325 ballots received at the Clallam County Auditor’s Office by last Friday.

Richard Johnston, a retired paper mill operator, was in second place in Port Angeles with 1,379 votes, or 31.9 percent.

Barring a dramatic swing in remaining vote tallies, McLaughlin and Johnston will face each other in the general election on Nov. 8.

Melanie Piper-Royce received 726 votes, or 16.8 percent.

In the Quillayute Valley School District race, School Board incumbent Sue Gibbs received 332, or 36.2 percent, of the 914 votes tallied in Clallam and Jefferson counties.

Rick Gale, a tree faller, came a close second receiving 321 votes, or 35 percent of the votes.

The third-place candidate in the preliminary vote tally was Tony Dias, who received 261 votes, or 28.4 percent.
