The U.S. Coast Guard’s Port Angeles contingent will be honored at a gathering Wednesday to commemorate the 211th anniversary of the Coast Guard’s founding.
Port Angeles Group Commanding Officer Capt. Bill Peterson will be inducted into the Port Angeles Rotary Club, and top Coast Guard personnel will be recognized at the club’s luncheon meeting at noon at the Port Angeles CrabHouse Restaurant, 221 N. Lincoln St.
Other personnel will be hosted by the Rotarians, club President Allan Bentley.
The Coast Guard commemorates its anniversary on Aug. 4, the date the Revenue Cutter Service was formed in 1790. The Coast Guard name began in 1915 when the Revenue Cutter Service was merged with four other agencies.
