PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles School Board will discuss changes to the 2017-18 budget in light of legislative action when it meets today.
The board will meet at 5:30 p.m. for an executive session, at 6 p.m. for a special budget hearing, and at 7 p.m. for a regular meeting at the Central Services Building, 216 E. Fourth St.
At the special budget hearing, David Knechtel, director of finance, will present a preliminary 2017-18 budget for consideration and comment and provide information on some of the ramifications of the new state funding.
Mostly good news
Much of the news is good.
State funding is increased slightly for the coming school year and wages will increase by 2.3 percent, according to a board agenda memo.
The preliminary budget represents the current thoughts and overall structure for where the district’s money should be spent with this in mind, the memo says.
Amend the budget
During the regular session, board members are expected to amend the budget, approve on a first reading an election activities policy and hear a report on Monday’s meeting with Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction officials.
