PORT ANGELES — Mayors Glenn Wiggins and Masashi Sugiyama dedicated a wooden “friendship bridge” Monday to the sister city relationship between Mutsu City, Japan, and Port Angeles.
About 150 people — including schoolchildren from Japan who had just returned from a day outing in Victoria — attended the ceremony at the bridge, which spans Valley Creek amid new landscaping near Front and First streets.
“I am happy to be here today and thankful for your construction of the bridge,” Sugiyama said through a translator during the ceremony.
Sugiyama and Wiggins said the bridge symbolized the friendship between the two cities and their residents.
Port Angeles and Mutsu City became sister cities in 1995.
