PORT ANGELES — City officials have declared a water emergency and are asking Port Angeles residents to limit their water use until a leak in the city’s water main can be repaired.
Only essential water use is permitted until the Stage 4 water emergency declaration is lifted at 7 a.m. Tuesday, City Public Works and Utilities Director Glenn Cutler said.
“We don’t want people to panic,” he said Friday. “We are watching (the leak) very closely.”
The leak in a 20-inch transmission water main that supplies water from the Elwha River to city residents was detected last week. Its discovery prompted the City Council on Friday to declare the water emergency while city reservoirs fill in preparation for repairs Monday.
The city will temporarily halt water transmission and operate solely on its reservoirs while the line is repaired Monday, Cutler said.
