The eight-week closure of the Hood Canal Bridge in 2006 could produce a $60 million windfall for Port Angeles.
The construction area, or “graving yard,” used for bridge repairs following the February 1979 sinking of the floating bridge’s western half is now the site of the Emerald Queen Casino on the Blair Waterway in Tacoma.
So the state Department of Transportation is seeking a new location to build pontoons and anchors to replace the eastern half of the 41-year-old bridge in May and June 2006.
And the Port Angeles waterfront is a candidate.
