PORT ANGELES — The public had its first chance Tuesday night to see the state’s plans for the Hood Canal Bridge replacement project and the proposed waterfront graving dock yard where the bridge components will be built.
The informal two-hour session featured state Department of Transportation engineers and project managers connected with the $60 million construction project.
One of the department’s displays showed four ships the size of the World War II battleship USS Missouri sitting side by side in the graving dock’s 68 million gallons of water, which would be contained by a 100-foot-wide, 43.5-foot-high gate.
The Port is negotiating with the state for leasing 20-plus waterfront acres for a graving yard — an onshore dry dock to build concrete anchors and pontoons for the Hood Canal Bridge.
