PORT ANGELES — State Department of Transportation officials say the plan for restarting work at the Hood Canal Bridge graving yard will likely be ready by the end of next week.
“We are really close to being able to make that decision,” said Jeff Sawyer, environmental and hydraulic manager for the state Department of Transportation’s Olympic region, said Friday.
State and Lower Elwha Klallam tribal officials have been working together to find a way to continue the construction since Native American remains and artifacts were found at the Port Angeles waterfront site.
Although state officials have said moving the graving yard to another location was an option, research by Peninsula Daily News showed no other sites were large enough to accomodate the project.
