PORT ANGELES — Students in sports and other extracurricular activities could pay more than $100 to participate next year.
Following a budget work session Wednesday, the School Board listed implementing a “pay-to-play” fee as “probable” next year.
The measure would raise an estimated $50,000, school officials said.
Under the proposal, all middle and high school athletes and students participating in other extracurricular activities would be charged a one-time $25 activity fee and a $25 fee per season of participation.
For example, a high school athlete who participates in fall, winter and spring sports could pay $100 in fees, in addition to similar fees for clubs, band and other extracurricular activities.
The fees are expected to be in addition to associated student body fees.
