PORT ANGELES — After a nine-month search, the Port Angeles Symphony Orchestra board of directors has announced Jonathan Pasternack of New York City as its new conductor and music director.
“I am thrilled,” symphony executive director Mark Wendeborn said this morning (Friday), adding that Pasternack, who was one of eight candidates for the job, will start July 1.
His salary for the three-quarter time position is within the advertised range of $40,000 to $45,000 annually, Wendeborn said.
A conductor who has led orchestras across North America and Europe, Pasternack came to Port Angeles in October to audition for the post, leading the symphony in an all-Beethoven concert Nov. 1.
He’ll be moving to the North Olympic Peninsula this summer to begin his work with the symphony and chamber orchestras, whose 55 members come from across Clallam and Jefferson counties.
