PORT ANGELES — Michael Andrew Sindars spent Wednesday celebrating his grandfather’s 70th birthday.
He shared cake with his grandfather, Robert Sindars of Port Angeles.
That evening, 16-year-old Michael drove 10 blocks to a friend’s house on the west side of town.
But Michael will never again celebrate a birthday.
Michael died three minutes before midnight Wednesday after being shot with a .45-caliber handgun.
He was the son of Rocky Sindars and Maria Paranteau, but his grandparents, Robert and Wanda Sindars, raised him.
Fishing and camping were passions for Michael, who had “messed” with his grandfather’s fishing tackle since he was 2 years old, said his grandmother, Wanda.
“Instead of the toy counter, he’d always go to the fishing counter,” she said. “He’d look and look and look. He loved to sort through fishing lures.”
