Despite collecting nearly $12,000 Tuesday, Port Angeles Chamber of Commerce officials are still seeking donations to pay for this year’s Independence Day fireworks.
The aerial display, to be provided by Oregon-based Western International Fireworks for $15,000, is expected to begin shortly after dusk on July 4.
Chamber Executive Director Russ Veenema said the organization kicked off its fund-raising campaign with a radio telethon on KONP AM 1450.
For nearly 12 hours, chamber members broadcasting from downtown Port Angeles challenged residents and businesses to help fund the aerial display, which will wrap up a day full of activities including a parade, concerts and food.
Callers pledged $11,854 toward the cost of fireworks. That leaves $3,146 to be collected.
Anyone interested in donating money to help pay for the fireworks should contact the Chamber of Commerce at 360-452-2363.
