PORT ANGELES — Troopers have identified a man who died on Monday in a fiery crash east of Port Angeles.
Robert Norman, 39, of Port Angeles was identified Tuesday by the Washington State Patrol as one of three people who died of injuries from a two-car crash on U.S. Highway 101 near Blue Mountain Road.
Norman was killed when the Ford Explorer he was riding in swerved into oncoming traffic and smashed head-on into a Toyota 4Runner.
Norman’s vehicle burst into flames and exploded shortly after the 1 p.m. crash.
Phillip White, 40, of Port Orchard, rescued Norman’s two daughters from the back seat of the burning vehicle before it exploded.
White said Norman was semi-conscious and trying to bat away the flames when the car exploded.
Also killed were the driver of the Toyota, Abani Biswas, 43, of Beaverton, Ore., and his daughter, Ankita, 7.
Abani died while being transported to Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles, and Ankita died at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, according to the hospitals and a State Patrol report.
Of the five who survived but were injured, two remained in serious condition Tuesday.
