PORT ANGELES — “Girls’ Night Out” will rock downtown Port Angeles tonight, with rock ‘n’ roll, fashion shows, late-night shopping and a taste of the 1950s.
The evening party will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will include late hours and specials at 26 businesses in the downtown area.
“It’s a chance for women to get out and be with each other and to have a fun experience,” said Beth Witters, chairwoman of the event committee.
The event coincides with the weeklong Esprit 2014 transgender conference at the Red Lion Hotel and often includes conference participants.
Each business will provide themed beads, based on each store’s specialty, for visitors to collect and make into craft projects, Witters said.
A disc jockey will play selections of 1950s rock ‘n’ roll at the Conrad Dyar Memorial Fountain at the intersection of First and Laurel streets, while a fashion show will feature local creations on Laurel Street, Witters said.
Each business was provided the theme and then was left to create its own show, event or special offers, she said.
Live models will strut through The Landing mall, 115 E. Railroad Ave., and into restaurants to show off jewelry crafted by local artists.
Refreshments and information about the jewelry and artists will await in the Heatherton Gallery inside The Landing.
Root beer floats will be for sale for $2 at the corner of First and North Laurel streets starting at 6:30 p.m.
Discounts are planned at many stores, and activities are scheduled throughout downtown.
Goodie bags
Goodie bags filled with products from Port Angeles businesses will go on sale at 4 p.m. today.
Only 200 bags will be sold, on a first-come, first-served basis.
The bags are $10 each.
They are available at Smugglers Landing, 115 E. Railroad Ave.; Necessities and Temptations gift shop, 217 N. Laurel St.; Cabled Fiber Studio, 106 N. Laurel St.; and Electric Beach, 117 N. Oak St.
This year’s charitable recipient of the bag sales is the Mount Angeles unit of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula.
The bags also contain instructions for crafts for the beads collected from the list of participating businesses.
