Voluntary water conservation measures since mid-September have reduced Port Angeles” city water usage by 600,000 gallons per day, according to Public Works Director Glenn Cutler.
Conservation measures depend on the weather and will remain in place until water flows improve in the Elwha River, he said.
The Elwha River is the city’s only source for drinking water.
Stage Two voluntary water conservation measures continue to be necessary, Cutler said.
These measures include reducing the amount and frequency of lawn watering, reducing the frequency of car washing, shortening showers and using low-flow shower heads, faucets and other conservation devices available for free at City Hall, Cutler said.
