PORT ANGELES — Residents will face voluntary water restrictions for about six weeks beginning late this month during construction of a cover on one of the city’s two largest reservoirs.
The voluntary restrictions also will affect some customers outside the city limit, since Clallam County Public Utility District No. 1 buys some of the city’s water.
“There won’t be any mandatory restrictions,” Deputy Mayor Orville Campbell said Tuesday.
“Everyone will be asked to be mindful of the amount of water they are using.
“Once people understand what the problem is, they have been very good about curtailing unnecessary water usage.”
City Engineering Manager Steve Sperr said covering the city’s Peabody Heights Reservoir, behind Olympic National Park headquarters at the east end of Viewcrest Avenue, will require declaring a Stage 2 — or “serious” — water shortage until the project is completed.
