PORT ANGELES — A project to put utility lines underground along Ediz Hook could mean tearing up 1,900 feet of the Waterfront Trail for two months.
City Engineer Jim Harper said the project initially called for putting utility lines underground about two feet from the harbor side of the trail.
But telephone lines are already located underground in that area, Harper said.
One alternative plan calls for moving the lines 8 feet to 10 feet from the trail.
But that area’s elevation is 12 inches to 18 inches lower, Harper said, noting fill would be required and the cost of the project would increase.
That means the city may have to bury the utility lines under the trail itself, Harper said.
