Denise Brennan of Port Angeles weathered heavy rains Saturday, joining 7,000 other breast cancer survivors among 40,000 participants in the Komen National Race for the Cure in Washington, D.C.
“I don’t think I’ve ever been that wet in my clothing in public before,” Brennan joked Sunday, referring to a monsoon-like downpour runners endured within sight of the Jefferson Monument.
Brennan and Sandy Huston, director of Family Planning of Clallam County, were among five people from Washington state who attended the annual Susan G. Komen Foundation National Conference, which runs through Tuesday.
Dedicating her 5-kilometer run to “all Olympic Peninsula women who have had breast cancer,” Brennan raised $500 for the Komen cause. Komen grant dollars are used for breast cancer research.
