PORT ANGELES — Madison Baumann has a lot to be thankful for this new year.
Although the seventh-grader at Roosevelt Middle School is still dealing with the effects of the head injury she experienced in a car collision last summer, the 12-year-old can laugh and joke with her mother about things that only months before were literally matters of life and death.
And Madison’s resolution for the new year couldn’t be simpler:
“To have a good year,” she said.
“It has to be better,” said Madison’s mom, Port Angeles lawyer Karen Unger.
“It can’t be worse.”
While on a June road-trip vacation with her father, Port Angeles lawyer Mark Baumann, the car she was riding in collided with a dump truck at an intersection in Park City, Utah.
Madison was the only person hurt in the crash, but her injuries were severe.
