PORT TOWNSEND — Port of Port Townsend commissioners approved a one-year lease with Discovery Bay Shellfish Inc. for commercial use of Port of Port Townsend land near Jefferson County International Airport.
Port staff negotiated a $450-a-month lease with the Discovery Bay geoduck farm operation’s president, Peter Downey, for a 150-by-200-foot piece of land adjacent to Highway 20.
Under the lease, Downey will be responsible for grading and graveling the site as well as installing water and power.
“And if all goes well, he would like to have the option to continue negotiations to construct a building on the site,” port staff writes in a memo to commissioners.
In late March, Downey said the immediate need for the land was to process 4-inch PVC pipe and materials and equipment storage.
Sections of pipe are used to protect geoduck seeds in rows along the shoreline.
