PORT ANGELES — The Port of Port Angeles commissioners will meet today at 1 p.m. to select finalists for the position of executive director.
The meeting, which is to be held mostly in closed-door executive session, will be held at the Port Administration Building, 338 W. First St.
The commissioners will evaluate the resumes and applications of the candidates for the position during the meeting.
After meeting in executive session, the commissioners will adjourn to regular session to discuss the search process and potentially take action.
Port Commission President John Calhoun said he wasn’t sure if the commission would announce the names of the finalists.
“My personal feeling is that it is better not to make that announcement until the person is selected,” he said.
“But we haven’t made that decision yet.”
Letters of interest
The port had received about 20 letters of interest at its last meeting, and resumes for those candidates were still coming in.
A length of time for the executive session was not listed in the meeting announcement, but the commissioners must say before they adjourn to closed session how long they expect it to take.
Former Executive Director Bob McChesney’s last day was May 15. He resigned to take the top post at the Port of Edmonds, where he began June 1.
No salary range was listed. McChesney was making $123,000 when he resigned.
The finalist interviews have been tentatively scheduled for the beginning of August and the commissioners have said that they hope to make a decision about that time.
Holly Hairell, human resources manager, is managing the search in lieu of the port hiring a consultant.
Until a new director is selected, Port Finance Director Bill James is serving as interim director.
