PORT ANGELES — One of the Port of Port Angeles commission’s expectations of Executive Director Bob McChesney as he is evaluated will be to figure out how to handle the work load in the wake of Monday’s termination of deputy director David Hagiwara, said one of the commissioners.
Commission President John Calhoun said that the three port commissioners are in the process of evaluating McChesney.
“Obviously one of those expectations will be to develop a staffing plan,” Calhoun said.
“The plan will include the budget ramifications and the ramifications on how to accomplish this huge, huge workload.”
Calhoun voted against Hagiwara’s firing, which was approved by a 2-1 vote on Monday.
The commissioners temporarily bypassed McChesney so that they could enact the firing, effective immediately, and permanently remove the job at the same time.
Said Calhoun: “I think the process of how this was done will have some consequences down the line that might not be positive.”
He declined to specify what the consequences may be.
McChesney has declined to comment.
Hagiwara did not answer his door on Tuesday afternoon. His phone number is unlisted.
