PORT HADLOCK — The man accused of slaying a well-known businessman last week telephoned his ex-wife to tell her that he had killed her father.
“My ex-husband had called me and told me my father was dead,” Shawna-Kay Smith said in a trembling voice last Tuesday during a call to 9-1-1 dispatchers shortly after Frank M. “Skip” Smith Jr. was shot to death at his tow truck business on Rhody Drive.
The call was the second reported in the shooting death, according to emergency 9-1-1 transcripts obtained by the PDN from the Jeffcom Dispatch Center on Friday.
Ryan Neil Sorensen, 30, of Spanish Fork, Utah, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of the 63-year-old owner of Smith’s Services, a towing and vehicle recovery firm.
