Port Hadlock man hurt crossing highway in wheelchair

PORT HADLOCK — A 68-year-old Port Hadlock man was injured Friday morning after he was struck by a van while crossing state Highway 116 in Port Hadlock in his wheelchair.

David F. Krieg was crossing state Highway 116, also called Oak Bay Road, in his motorized wheelchair when he was struck by a brown 1984 Ford van at about 11 a.m. Friday, according to the State Patrol.

Krieg was headed north, crossing at the intersection of state Highway 116 and Chimacum Road, according to the State Patrol.

John H. Williams, a 61-year-old Port Hadlock resident and driver of the van, was stopping at a stop sign on Irondale Road and preparing to turn east onto 116 when he struck Krieg.

Krieg was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment of injuries.

Krieg’s condition was not known as of Saturday.

Williams was not injured, and the van was driven off-site, according to the State Patrol.

The State Patrol is investigating the cause of the incident.
