Port Hadlock man hurt in crash aboard ‘cursed’ motorcycle

CHIMACUM – A Port Hadlock man was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle on Wednesday after crashing a motorcycle one person called cursed.

The green 1995 Kawasaki Ninja driven by Larry D. Ayers, 31, slammed into the back of a pickup stopped for traffic on state Highway 19 at Anderson Lake Road at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Larry D. Ayers, 31, sustained a broken femur bone and other bone fractures when the motorcycle he was driving northbound hit a 1984 Chevrolet S-10 pickup driven by Luke Snyder, 35, of Chimacum, said State Patrol Trooper E. J. Ellefson.

Harborview reported Ayers to be in satisfactory condition at about 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Ayers’ friend, J.C. Fjellman of Port Hadlock, who was at the crash site, said that he and Ayers painted the motorcycle only last week.

He said that he’s known the four previous owners of the bike, and they have all been in crashes with the motorcycle.

“They tried to sell it to me,” Fjellman said.

“I said, ‘Uh huh, this thing’s cursed.'”

Snyder was not injured.

The State Patrol estimated damage to the truck at $1,000.

Ayers had no motorcycle endorsement, Ellefson said.

The State Patrol estimated his motorcycle as a total loss.
