PORT HADLOCK — A 33-year-old pedestrian suffered serious injuries Monday afternoon after being carried for several blocks on the hood of the car that struck him on a dirt road near state Highway 19.
The driver of the vehicle, 20-year-old Justin Z. Degrasse-Craig, was booked into Jefferson County Jail for investigation of hit-and-run driving, and officials say he could be charged with vehicular assault.
The matter will be turned over to the county prosecutor for consideration of formal charges.
The pedestrian, John Jennings, was reported in satisfactory condition Monday night at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, to which he had been airlifted.
The incident took place on Gene Road, a few blocks off the busy state highway.
Sgt. Rick Smith of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said Jennings and Degrasse-Craig apparently knew each other and had a failed business deal which a witness said was the sale of a vehicle.
