SHINE – A Port Ludlow man, who was described as “a wonderful dad,” was killed on the Hood Canal Bridge early Thursday when the car he was driving crossed the center line and hit a semi truck head-on.
Lee Allen Gibson, 53, died in the wreck.
The bridge was closed for 3½ hours while emergency crews cleared the crash scene.
Denise G. Todd, 60, of Auburn, who was driving the semi truck, was not injured.
“This is a tragic event,” said State Patrol spokesman Trooper Brian George.
“It only takes a second to cross the center line.”
The State Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.
“At this point, there’s nothing conclusive at the scene that indicates why [Gibson] crossed the center line,” George said.
The investigation aims at “just trying to get a picture of what happened leading up to the collision,” he said.
