POULSBO — A 35-year-old Port Ludlow man was killed and four people were injured in a collision Saturday evening in Kitsap County.
Jason L. Cartmel, 35, was pronounced dead at the scene after his 1989 Volvo crossed the centerline of state Highway 3 near Equestrian Road, struck another vehicle and overturned, according to the Washington State Patrol.
The crash occurred just north of the state Highway 305 interchange shortly before 6:30 p.m. Both vehicles were destroyed.
The driver of the other car, Shane Gillis, 32, of Everett, and his three passengers in a 2001 Subaru Legacy were taken to Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton with injuries ranging from bruises to broken ribs.
Cartmel had been reported driving erratically moments before the collision, troopers said.
Cartmel’s pet dog was thrown from the car and died.
The collision closed Highway 3, the principal route between Tacoma and the Hood Canal Bridge, for several hours.
