PORT LUDLOW — Millions of people watching the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City will hear the voice of a local woman.
Carol Nugent will be one of the announcers for next week’s Olympic figure skating events.
And she will be introducing skaters over the sound system at the Salt Lake Ice Center.
If you’re watching on television, you’ll hear her voice in the background, announcing judges’ scores just before they’re repeated by television broadcasters and translated into foreign languages throughout the arena.
For Nugent, a skating announcer and enthusiast for nearly two decades who recently moved to the area, announcing at the Olympics is a dream come true.
She’s one of only nine national announcers for the United States Figure Skating Association — only two were chosen for the Olympics.
“It’s an honor,” Nugent said. “It’s a wonderful and exciting opportunity.”
