LAPUSH — The Coast Guard is escorting a distressed sailing yacht from Port Ludlow to shore from the Pacific Ocean approximately 40 miles west of LaPush.
The crew of the sailing vessel Talara was en route from Port Ludlow to Hawaii when the mast spreader or mast support rigging failed around 6:50 p.m. Monday.
The Coast Guard launched an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station Port Angeles and a 47-foot motor lifeboat crew from Station Quillayute River in LaPush.
The helicopter crew was the first to arrive on scene at 8:21 p.m. The motor life boat crew arrived at 8:58 p.m. and was escorting the Talara toward the Washington coast early today.
No injuries were reported.
