PORT TOWNSEND — With consolidation of properties in mind, Port of Port Townsend commissioners on Wednesday moved toward buying nine commercial buildings and buying out three private leases at Port Townsend Industrial Park.
The buildings are owned by Forks businessman Bill Sperry, who leases the Port property on which the buildings sit within Boat Haven near Sims Way and Haines Street.
Sperry has had the property appraised at $1.15 million, Port officials said, but the Port, as standard procedure, will seek its own appraisal as well.
At Port Executive Director Larry Crockett’s recommendation, commissioners asked Port employees to create a purchase agreement for the buildings for further consideration at a Jan. 11 business meeting.
“Out intent is to honor all existing leases,” Crockett said of the 12 tenants leasing the Sperry buildings.
Businesses using the buildings include Port Townsend Brewing Co., Waste Not Want Not, Lowest Hadlock Shipwrights, Admiral Ship Supply, Key Electric, Key City Fish, Port Townsend Furniture Clinic, Blue Moose Cafe, Design Craft, Sunrise Coffee Co., Rick Petrykowski and Steelhead Marine.
