PORT TOWNSEND — The City Council passed first reading of its 2004 budget on Monday. Adoption of the budget is expected next week.
The $24.77 million budget is $1.5 million more than this year’s budget.
The issue will come up Monday at the council’s regular 6:30 p.m. meeting at City Hall, 540 Water St.
Next year’s budget allocates about $11 million in capital expenses and $13 million in operating funds.
In the $7.1 million general fund, $1.6 million comes from property taxes, $1.3 million from sales taxes and $950,000 from utility taxes, Finance Director Michael Legarsky said Tuesday.
