PORT TOWNSEND — Organizers of the Port Townsend Film Festival expect to see more entries now that filmmakers may win prize money.
The fifth annual festival, Sept. 24-26, will have $6,500 in prize money available in four categories. That’s $6,500 more than has been offered to competitors in the past.
“I think we’ll receive a larger base of films,” said festival director Peter Simpson.
“There are more than 600 film festivals every year, and we’ve had to scramble to get films.”
A sponsor who Simpson said he can’t identify at the present time donated the prize money for the juried competition.
“I’m hopeful that these will become annual prizes,” Simpson said. “I think it will certainly increase the number of entries we receive and should give us a broader scope of films from which to choose.”
