A morning snowstorm Tuesday kept students out of school, forced cars into ditches, closed roads and created a temporary winter wonderland in northern Jefferson County before it was mostly washed away by rain later in the day.
Up to 3 inches of more snow is expected today to equal the 3 inches of snow that fell Tuesday in Port Townsend.
Snowfall began at 6 a.m. and lasted into the afternoon.
Southern parts of Jefferson County, including Brinnon and Quilcene, were largely spared and only received a light dusting, weather officials said.
Port Townsend and Chimacum middle school and high school students went to school Tuesday morning only to be sent home at 10:30 a.m. by officials fearing the prospect of more snow.
Elementary school students who start classes later in the day were told to stay home.
