PORT TOWNSEND — The man accused of the 1992 stabbing death of a Quilcene girl will not be tried by a jury.
Robert H. Froehlich, 29, formerly of Quilcene, agreed Friday to a bench trial before Jefferson County Superior Court Judge Tom Majhan.
That means that Majhan will be the sole arbiter of Froehlich’s guilt or innocence in the July 1992 death of 15-year-old Allison Tornensis.
Gerald Barnhart, Froehlich’s attorney, requested the bench trial during a hearing in Jefferson County Superior Court on Friday.
Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney Juelie Dalzell didn’t object.
