PORT TOWNSEND — Sitting on the front porch of the Fort Worden Schoolhouse building, Steve Cheseborough and two other blues guitarists deftly pick and strum “Stagger Lee.”
Though Cheseborough lives in one of the birthplaces of the blues — Oxford, Miss. — he has come to Port Townsend each of the last six years to perform and teach in Centrum’s Blues and Heritage Festival, set to begin Friday.
“It’s sort of strange I have to come from Mississippi to Port Townsend,” he said. “But this is one of the only gatherings like this for country blues.”
Cheseborough will join about 250 performers, teachers and students from around the country as part of the festival.
The festival includes concerts in Port Townsend, a day of performances at Fort Worden State Park and a week-long series of workshops for musicians.
