PORT TOWNSEND — Valorie Danielek unloaded 50 pizzas from her delivery van at the Port Townsend ferry dock for the crew of “Ring,” the major motion picture being shot this week.
The owner of the Pizza Factory was very pleased with the large order. She said 25 pizzas came from her restaurant and the other 25 came from Waterfront Pizza.
“We’ve been busier because they’re in town,” Danielek said. “We can handle surprise orders like this because the (Port Townsend Paper Corp.) mill does it all the time.”
The pizza order was just one example of the positive economic impact for Port Townsend during a time of year that’s traditionally less profitable than the summer high season.
Cliff Carpenter, manager with his wife, Shari, of the Harborside Inn, said the DreamWorks SKG production crew had filled most of its 63 rooms with the balance taken by regular customers.
“Right now, we’re doing three times our normal business,” Carpenter said.
“We’ll probably end the month about double the normal, but we’ve had more business since mid-November. It was a good month for us, too.”
