PORT TOWNSEND — After a passionate debate about what constitutes discrimination, the City Council approved a pool fee increase 4-2 on Monday.
Councilor Michelle Sandoval was absent.
Starting Oct. 1, overall swimming pool fees will increase 20 percent for city residents and 45 percent for nonresidents.
A single-use youth pass will cost $2.50 for city residents, up from the current $2, and $3 for nonresidents, up from $2.50.
A single-use adult pass will jump from $2.50 to $3 for city residents, and cost $4 for nonresidents, up from the current $3.
The increases are expected to raise pool revenues by about $4,500 a year, city officials said, assuming no change in pool attendance results from the fee increases.
