PORT TOWNSEND –City Council members have voted themselves a salary increase, although not all council members will receive the raise at the same time.
State law prevents elected officials from raising their own salaries so the first of the adjustments won’t take place until January 2004.
At that time the four council members elected during the Nov. 4 general election will be paid $375 a month, a $125 a month increase over the current salary.
The four will receive an additional $125 a month increase at the beginning of 2005 bumping their monthly salaries to $500.
