Port Townsend city councilman’s resignation effective today

PORT TOWNSEND – Scott Walker has resigned from the City Council, effective today.

He cited personal and business reasons, but said he planned to stay in Port Townsend.

“There are significant personal issues I am dealing with,” the 53-year-old electrical contractor said Wednesday.

“I had to take care of myself, the business and my personal issues that I don’t care to share.

“I may be entering a period of tremendous personal growth opportunity.”

Walker resigned on Tuesday afternoon, in a letter dated today.

He said he has put 27 years of time and effort into “what I think is a tremendous community, and I most humbly apologize to those that I may have disappointed.

“I think it’s in the best interest of myself and the community that I resign.

“And it’s painful, very painful,” he added.

Walker, not long after taking office in January 2006, admitted he had been reluctant to run in the first place.

He said he preferred volunteer work over an elected position.

Walker handily defeated opponent Syd Lipton in November 2005.
