PORT TOWNSEND — An acre of Jefferson County land at Port Townsend Business Park is emerging as the prime site for the relocation of the city’s police department.
City Manager David Timmons and county Administrator John Fischbach have been discussing the city’s acquisition of the two-lot property.
The site is at the north end of the Howard Street link to Upper Sims Way, just west of the business park buildings that house the Olympic Community Action Program’s administrative offices.
“We are actually looking to go forward with the property acquisition and take the design to the next level,” Timmons said Friday.
Before any acquisition, the Port Townsend City Council would act on the proposal.
Timmons said he hoped to finalize it sometime next year.
City officials had been pondering a site on the grounds of Mountain View Elementary School, which Port Townsend School District board members had considered for closure because of declining enrollment.
